UAPCS Board Candidate – Lincoln Fillmore

I’m Lincoln Fillmore, and I am excited to be running for another term to represent your school’s interests on the board of the Utah Association of Public Charter Schools.  In my years on the board, I have been a tireless advocate for improving the statewide charter environment by strengthening public policy and public opinion on behalf of charter schools.  A lot of progress has been made, and I think we can accomplish a lot more in the next two years.

My plans and platform for the next two years are to further strengthen our movement by:
·         Involve more stakeholders in the Association and the Movement by engaging business leaders, board members, parents, teachers, and students into an legion of charter supporters that can influence legislation and perception.
·         Focus on the development of statewide services and support programs that make best practices, quality programs, effective management, innovative ideas, and cost-savings measures available to all schools.
·         Increasing our focus on media relations and getting positive stories and accurate information in front of the public more often.
·         Continue the work and keep the pressure on the legislature to fund charter students at the same level as students in district schools.

We have an untapped network in the form of the dedicated parents, board members, and teachers that has the potential to turn our Association into what it ought to be—a powerful force that puts us in the top tier of influence in Utah.  We can achieve equal funding for our students, protect our autonomy and ability to innovate, dispel myths and misperceptions, and share our excellence and expertise so that we can continue to provide quality education options that meet the needs of Utah children.

I bring numerous strengths and extensive experience that specifically benefit the Association.
·         An intricate knowledge of charter laws, policy, and finance
·         Relationships with key legislators and opinion leaders that move our agenda forward
·         Experience as a teacher, principal, business manager, consultant, board member, and charter author
·         I have written some of the highest-scored grants in Utah, and have also written successful grants from the Daniels Fund and others that can help the Association with the resources we need to stay strong

I’ll use that experience to strengthen our Association.  My commitment is to enhance the financial support for your students and to protect your autonomy and ability to innovate.  I ask for your support.
